PUBLIC SPEAKING COACH & KEYNOTE SPEAKER

"When there is no room at the table, tell them it's sunnah to eat on the floor anyway!"

Khalila, Power Of Voice Academy

Hey, Asalaam aleikum,

I’m Khalila.

I am passionate about helping Muslims around the world step into their full potential and speak powerfully to share their message with the world!

I’m a mama of four from London- and for a long time that was my title. A powerful title of immense responsibility and by far my greatest blessing, yet I always felt like there was something more for me to do!

You know the feeling like something is bubbling deep within your core? Well, I felt it but pushed it down, squashed it away and silenced it for well over a decade.

See, before becoming Muslim I was a public speaker, radio host and actress. Speaking on stage and performing regularly in front of thousands. My life and dreams were focused on building a thriving career and I was a very determined go-getter from as early as I can remember. When others were relaxing, I was working in the studio coming home as people were just leaving for work.

It wasn’t long before I was working with many celebrities and creating a name within their circles. Yet, something was missing. I noticed that when the lights and cameras turned off, many of these celebrities and ‘successful’ individuals were noticeably empty. They realised all the glitters and golds didn’t really mean much and often numbed the sting of loneliness in intoxicants and drugs.

I noticed that when the lights and cameras turned off, many of these celebrities and ‘successful’ individuals were noticeably empty. They realised all the glitters and golds didn’t really mean much and often numbed the sting of loneliness in intoxicants and drugs.

I wanted more - with a deep thirst for finding meaning in my life, my path stumbled across the beautiful religion of Islam walhumdulilah.

In 2007 I got off the train at Regents Park Mosque, the sun shining in through the gorgeous stained-glass windows- my life changed forever in those words ‘la ilaha ilala Mohummad A Rasool Allah’. I was Muslim. Praise To Allah.

Shortly after taking my shahada, I got a call from my then agent who said that I had been selected to tour and host a massive celebrity. A multi-million-dollar record company owner. It would be the start of the career I had been dreaming of. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks across my head. This celebrity spoke words that were womanising and completely against my faith that taught me- women were queens! There was no way I could promote such indecencies. So I turned it down and with that buried the girl I was. I had no idea how I could bring her into the woman I was becoming, so I silenced my voice and ended my career.

Time passed and in 2020, after the birth of my fourth beautiful daughter allahumma Barak, I became a single mum. Suddenly, the weight of the world is on my shoulders. I had gone back to university, studied storytelling at Goldsmith and was working as a teacher. I knew it would be impossible to clock in and out on someone else's time schedule with four children on my own and one still only a baby. I needed to work in a way that would suit my family- my time, but how?

I took a big risk, quit my job, and started a business in education with a beloved friend of mine, Ruqayyah: Homeschool Queens. It blew up- in under a year we had a thriving international audience of almost 10,000. It was during a live masterclass I really saw the benefits of using my voice again. We had people running into our offers before we had even finished the event. I saw how much speaking up benefited us in so many ways. My bank balance grew significantly and more importantly I was able to connect with my audience on such a deep level. It was like fireworks. I finally remembered that feeling I had once loved so much in the past and knew it was time!

I started training with some of the best public speakers in the world, and from showing up and sharing my story I was invited to speak on TEDx Santa Barbara California, a platform with over a billion viewers. It was time for our voices to be heard and taken seriously.

I then went on to open up Power Of Voice Academy, the first public speaking academy for Muslims in the world.  I have been blessed to work with some extraordinary, inspirational Muslim talent, helping them to step into the greatest speaker they were born to be. I truly believe everyone has the ability to be a speaker- you have been learning to speak since inside the womb. With strategies and voice coaching you can be speaker ready- to take on any stage or platform you dream of.

Speaking up changed my life and I am passionately on a mission to help other Muslim creatives, entrepreneurs and thought leaders share their message so that it deeply inspires and makes changes to the people who really need to hear it.

The public speaking schools are filled with things that don’t allow us to remain within our boundaries and values. I have created a training programme where you will benefit from all the techniques used by pros but be able to shine unapologetically as yourself.

Work With Khalila
